Douglas County Economic Indicators - July 2022
The July 2022 Douglas County Economic Indicators are out now and also available at this qualityinfo.org link.
Douglas County employment was essentially the same in June 2022 as in the year before. The county has regained 68% of the jobs lost in early 2020, and unemployment edged down to 4.4% in June which is tied for a record low for the area.
The special graph this month tries to answer an underlying question for our current economic situation. We know the unemployment rate is low, but how much of that low unemployment is because people have dropped out of the labor force entirely? The graph below shows the change in the seasonally adjusted civilian labor force relative to 2010.
In terms of the total number of working people, there are more in Douglas County’s labor force than pre-pandemic and essentially the same as there were in 2010. The growth for Douglas County hasn’t nearly matched the state, however, which has been grown by about 12% since 2010.
