South Coast Economy

 

Total nonfarm employment grew over the year by 310 jobs in Coos County to 22,820. The professional and business services sector experienced the greatest employment gain with 130 jobs. The following industries all experienced the greatest employment losses with 20 jobs each:

 

  • Private education and health services

  • Trade, transportation, and utilities

  • Mining, logging, and construction

 

Total nonfarm employment declined over the year by 80 jobs in Curry County to 6,360. The manufacturing sector experienced the greatest employment gain with 30 jobs. Leisure and hospitality saw the greatest employment loss with 70 jobs.

Special Topic: Commuting Patterns


This month’s special topic highlights commuting patterns in, out, and within the counties in 2022 – the most recent data that’s available.

 

There were 16,178 workers employed within Coos County. One third of workers were employed in the county but lived outside it. Two thirds of workers were both employed and lived in the county. An additional 5,742 workers lived in the county but were employed outside it which accounted for 34% of those living in Coos County.

 

There were 4,822 individuals employed within Curry County. Over a third of workers were employed in the county but lived outside it. Nearly two thirds of workers were both employed and lived in the county. An additional 2,313 individuals lived in the county but were employed outside it which accounted for 44% of those living in Curry County.
