South Coast Economy
Employment decreased by 310 jobs in Coos County and 280 jobs in Curry County over the year. Government saw the most job growth in Coos County adding 80 jobs. Professional and business services experienced the greatest job loss with 200. Financial activities and manufacturing in Curry County saw the greatest job growth adding 10 jobs while it lost 140 jobs in the trade, transportation, and utilities sector. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is currently 4.7% in Coos and 5.3% in Curry.

Special Topic: Q1 Manufacturing Subsector Snapshot
The special topic this month looks at employment and quarterly average wages in a few select manufacturing subsectors. Wood product and food manufacturing is highlighted for both counties in addition to nonmetallic mineral product manufacturing for Coos and beverage and tobacco product manufacturing for Curry. These subsectors make up a large component of manufacturing in their respective counties and are key players in the overall economy.
