South Coast Economy
Employment declined by 180 jobs in Coos county and 260 jobs in Curry county over the year in May. Government saw the most gains in both counties adding 120 and 20 jobs respectively. Trade, transportation and utilities witnessed some of the greatest employment losses: Coos county lost 120 jobs in this sector; Curry, 170 jobs. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is currently 4.8% in Coos and 5.3% in Curry.

Special Topic: The Leisure and Hospitality Industry’s Pandemic Recovery
This month’s special graph focuses on employment in the leisure and hospitality industry prior to, during and post-pandemic. In Coos County this industry now employs more people than it did prior to the pandemic. Curry County has seen a return to seasonally dependent fluctuations in employment levels. Both counties have witnessed job recovery in this sector.
