South Coast Economy
Businesses gained 470 jobs in Coos County and lost 100 jobs in Curry County over the year in October. Government added the most jobs in Coos County, growing by 230. Leisure and hospitality added the most jobs in Curry County, growing by 50. Trade, transportation, and utilities saw the most employment losses in both counties declining by 160 jobs in Coos County and 150 jobs in Curry County. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remains stable at 4.8% in Coos County and 5.3% in Curry County.

Special Topic: Veteran and Nonveteran Unemployment
This month’s special topic takes a closer look at American Community Survey data from the U.S. Census Bureau for veteran and nonveteran unemployment from 2012 to 2022. Veteran unemployment has decreased in both counties over time. Coos County has seen a decrease of 7.1 percentage points during this 10-year period. Curry County has seen a more modest decrease of 4.2 percentage points.
