South Coast Economy
Businesses lost 270 jobs in Coos County and 210 jobs in Curry County over the year in September. Government grew the most in both counties, adding 180 jobs in Coos and 30 jobs in Curry. Professional and business services witnessed the greatest job loss in Coos County, declining by 450 jobs. Leisure and hospitality saw the greatest contraction in Curry County with a loss of 90 jobs. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is currently 4.8% in Coos County and 5.3% in Curry County.

Special Topic: Workforce Gender Demographics
The special topic this month examines gender workforce demographics from 1992 to the present. In 2009 women represented approximately 48.5% of the workforce, a record high, in Coos County. Curry County has been experiencing a general divergent trend since 2011 with the male population accounting for 8.9% more of the workforce as of 2024.
